This course covers the essential foundation for safe, practical and proven gun handling skills in a defensive situation. This course also covers the basic fundamentals of effectively presenting and accurately shooting your handgun.

All handgun, holster and ammunition requirements are in place for the safety of all participants. To that end, please do not ask us to make exceptions. The range is sloped and unimproved and you must be in reasonable physical condition that allows you to stand for 3 hours. This is a basic level course – not a beginner’s course. You should have a basic skill set on weapons handling, loading and marksmanship prior to arriving for this class. Due to the range configuration, class size is limited.

Course requirements:
Please bring all handguns to class completely unloaded, in a case, or gun bag, and leave them there until instructed.

  • Must be 21 years of age unless otherwise approved.
  • Must be legally able to own and possess a handgun.
  • Must be able to provide photo identification to verify age and residency.
  • A defensive type handgun in good working condition- no sharing of handguns permitted between students – ideally, we suggest the gun you use for personal/home defense.
  • The belt holster requirements listed below are crucial. Please contact us directly if you have any questions:
      • All holsters must be external hip/belt holsters outside the waistband (OWB) positioned at 3:00 (or 9:00 for lefties).
      • Inside the waist band (IWB) holsters, Shoulder, Appendix, Thigh or Crossdraw holsters are not permitted in this class.
      • Drawing from concealment is not permitted in this class.
      • SERPA style holsters are also prohibited.
      • Kydex or rigid leather style holsters that stay open at all times are required to enable the shooter to draw and holster single handed.
      • These holster requirements are crucial so please contact us directly with any questions on holster requirements.
  • A sturdy belt that will support your holster, loaded gun and loaded magazines in a mag pouch.
  • 150 rounds of factory new ammunition- ABSOLUTELY NO RELOADS.
  • Three magazines for a semi-automatic handgun or 2 speed loaders for a revolver.
  • Approved shooting safety glasses- must fit over regular eyeglasses if you wear them. No safety goggles permitted.

  • Please bring water, snacks and a chair as we will take breaks, but you will not have time to leave the range to get food or beverages.

Defensive Handgun Fundamentals-2

  • This class builds upon the skills learned in Defensive Handgun Fundamentals-1. This intermediate level course emphasizes combat accuracy in a variety of situations. Emphasis will be placed on shooting fundamentals and remedial actions to ensure you are able to effectively operate your handgun in a defensive encounter.
